Christopher Squier

b. Lawrence, KS

Crime scenes, horror movies, and historical monuments: Christopher Squier reassembles broken and disassembled materials into sculptural and digital forms. The suggested visual elements from historical sites and religious iconography are resituated within novel landscapes through satellite imagery, 3-D animation, Photoshop stonemasonry, and physical smoke-and-mirrors processes. The ensuing works perch at the confluence of luxury and crime, utopia and dystopia; the symbolic and historical narratives transformed leaving simply decorative forms to respond to such an infrastructure of dislocation and instability.

Squier received his MFA in sculpture from the San Francisco Art Institute (2015) and his BA in studio art from Grinnell College (2013). Recently, his work has been exhibited in Boston, Córdoba, Prague and San Francisco and is in the collection of the Prague Gallery of Czech Glass.
